Grade II Cecchetti Syllabus

Grade II Syllabus

Prerequisite: Pass Grade I Cecchetti Exam or Teacher Approval

In Cecchetti Grade II the student will continue to develop strength and coordination with more technically demanding work. There is still a heavy focus on posture, alignment and placement of the feet to insure a strong foundation for the upper grades and pointe work. The student will be challenged to learn all the material in French, whereas in Gr. I there was still quite a bit of English in the material. Older/more advanced students who can demonstrate a mastery of Gr. I material may take the Gr. II exam without having previously passed the Gr. I.

The syllabus consists of slightly more sophisticated movement patterns utilizing, but not limited to, the following movements and steps: 

BARRE

  • Deux demi pliés et un grand plié
  • Battement tendu en croix et battement degage à la seconde
  • Rond de jambe à terre en dehors et en dedans
  • Battement frappe
  • Grand battement
  • Petit battements sur le cou de pied
  • Développé
  • Échappé relevé à la seconde avec relevé devant
  • Coupé dessous et dessus avec pas de bourrées dessous

AU MILIEU

  • Première, troisième, et quatrième port de bras
  • Positions du corps

ADAGE

  • Développé et temps lié
  • Première, seconde, et troisième arabesques 

PIROUETTES

  • Échappé relevé sans changer, soussus, relevé en cinquième, demi-detourner
  • Préparation pour pirouettes en dehors

ALLEGRO

Basic Steps

  • Coupé dessous et dessus (allegro style)
  • Assemblé de suite dessus et dessous
  • Assemblé soutenu
  • Échappé relevésur les demi-pointes
  • Glissadedevant et derrière
  • Pas de bourrée dessous, soussus,
  • Chassé

Enchaînements

  • Trois pas de bourrées dessous et un posé en avant
  • Trois soussus et un échappé changé
  • Trois glissades sans changer et un battement tendu
  • Quatre changements et deux échappés sautés changes
  • Trois assemblés dessus et un assemblé soutenu
  • Trois assemblés dessous et un assemblé soutenu
  • Deux jetés temps levés, coupé dessous, coupé dessous, pas de chat, changement
  • Balancé en avant, en arrière, posé de coté, chassé en arrière en croisé devant

En Diagonale

  • Chassé en avant, coupé dessous, chassé en avant, temps levé en troisième arabesque
  • Tour en cinquième

Students who have achieved the appropriate skill level for Grade II may be presented for examination under the auspices of the Examining Board of the Cecchetti Council of America.  Following successful completion of the Grade I material, a minimum of two years’ study is recommended for students to master the technical and artistic skills necessary for Grade II.

Additionally, students may prepare for the spring “Parent Day” dance presentation by learning a dance that incorporates many of the concepts and steps learned throughout the year.
